甘地跟阿拉伯的勞倫斯目前看來是首部分片裝的4K藍光。
之前的4K長片也不是不能分，但每代載體都重新強調更大的容量與更高的壓縮效率（特別是雷射影碟到DVD時「不用換片」也是宣傳主打），況且部份影片的敘事構造就是一氣呵成，某些加長版就是補足原本劇院不能作的長篇敘事（像守護者四小時版），這時還分片就更與新載體的用意矛盾。
但古典長片原始版通常就有中場休息的，有先天構造的大義名份就更適於分片。當年甘地就是長到藍光就該分片卻只有單片版。

阿拉伯的勞倫斯相關：
前陣子翻古早SUPERBIT評論，得知竟然是中間分片，下半片看十幾分鐘就冒出個中場休息。@賽臉@ 到Mastered in 4K藍光才有合理分片，而且還沒有像魔戒加長版後半片開頭預設用黑選單減少氣氛干擾！更搞笑的是兩片首個章節都不是沿者入場音樂/中場休息音樂的結尾，換言之都不是「跳一章」就進入正片！@賽臉@
阿拉伯的勞倫斯現通行版本通稱「導演版」。據修復者Robert A. Harris回顧，找原導演監修時導演又修掉幾個鏡頭。
原始版不復存在，經過好幾十年艱辛的素材收集與重建過程才作出「接近」理論上的原始版，即使如此還是有部份尚存鏡頭因為「相關」鏡頭丟失，因而喪失敘事作用得剪掉。
趁導演活著時給他機會作最後一次定稿聽來不像是壞事，復原得對不對確實也需要由導演說了算。問題是導演在上述鏡頭之外還決定「多」修剪一些，使得現今通行版本仍然不是人家辛苦復原出的「最接近原始版」：

這點我對導演肚爛之處就是：就是因為當年導演（原本說是製片為增加能上映的場次，近期翻案文說實為導演授意）上映後又大剪特剪不只一次，還是剪原始負片又沒合理歸檔保存，才造成這艱辛的復原過程。雖說這次的「最終」導演版結構上與原始版差異沒有後來的「大剪版」來得大，但這修剪使得「復原」的目的喪失意義。阿拉伯的勞倫斯分片版的上下片不論SUPERBIT或MI4K，在安全位元率與安全容量內都用不了滿檔，使用seamless branch同步呈現「導演版」與「近原始版」都是合理的，就不知導演生前有無採取法律手段阻擋事後還原的途徑。
這次4K版從資料來看，「近原始版」大概不會再有重見天日的機會。當年兩個「大剪版」既然好歹是導演授意監修的也該作為選項。
理想的阿拉伯的勞倫斯正片版本應該是：
Disc 1、2：現行導演版＋近原始版上下正片via seamless branch，有「喪失敘事作用」鏡頭或「畫質無法復原鏡頭」作為次選項更好。
Disc 3、4：兩個「大剪版」via seamless branch，也分上下片，跟導演/近原始版分開以避免太多分枝資料浪費容量。Bitrate高過導演或近原始版太不成體統，多出的空間可以有不同編排的特別收錄。

「大剪版」出品的難處在於：對破壞影片歷史的輿論反彈，導致「破壞歷史的歷史」也遭破壞。
當年寬螢幕影廳推廣初期，一堆1.375:1古典比例的電影被上下切邊成1.85:1拷貝上映充數，DVD時代這些片子（原片商版）的16:9切割版也不知是否依據當時切法，這些前例留下惡評，被視為電影院「另一軸向」的pan&scan而被視為沒價值，連帶使得有慎重構圖重框2.2:1的70mm放大版不見出品
Roadshow流行期，有過一堆不很長的電影也亂加中場休息過場重映。同樣不被視為有可分上下片增加bitrate的價值
阿拉伯的勞倫斯也不是唯一事後被大剪來增加場次的片子，但卻是少數（可能）由導演授意的（為多分紅？）而有點歷史名份，這就比較惋惜。
