is it powerful enough to play H264 smoothly?

finally, bro wants to join HTPC at lowest $.
below is what he plans to get:

MB: Asus P5K/SE.

CPU: Intel E4500.
video card: Asus 2600XT D4.

RAM: 2G x 2.

can above combination run H264 HD show smoothly w/o lag?
if not powerful enough, what do you recommend?

個人覺得可能剛好夠跑,如果可以把CPU升級到E6550以上應該會更好點

只要是 M0 製程的 E4500 應該是不錯選擇
也許應該多在 os 和軟體間下些工夫
(e.g. 4gb 記憶體和 OS 限制)

Master:
your combination is good enough to play H264 HD，but ATI 2600 XT is a little bit troublesome !! The point is the software(KMP setups, for example)，Nvidia 8XXX series is alternative .

my AMD Athlon 64 x2 5000+ + 8600GS enough play H264

I ask Intel friend about Duo vs Quad.
he says unless PC needs to do many jobs at same time, otherwise, Duo 6550 is powerful enough to play h264 HD smoothly.Quad won't speed up on play h264 job.8-}so can save some $ for other toys.
