1 day in HK
2 weeks ago, I spent 1 day in HK.visited about 50 AV stores.Sha Tin station is a nice place to start, 6F has many stores, from chain stores like Broadway, Fortress to individual dealers.there was a tiny TV expo from top 10 brands: Tosh, JVC, Panny, Sammy, Sharp, Sony, Olevia, Hita, Pio, and Phili.of course, catalogs are much nicer with much detailed info than our very simple 1 page fly.
seems HVD is the main trend B4 blu hits market.most above makers offer HVD demo discs, much clearer than regular DVD.the player, GEIC (forgot correct spelling) is about $1500.just CPRM NG.
Pio new DL recordable DVR, 630H is $6000 with 160G HDD.so the previous 720H dropped to mere $5000, really a great bargain!969 is $6000.Pio has the best CPRM compatibility in my tests.
Tosh new xs44 has 250G HDD for about same $ as 630H.however, CPRM NG.
for SACD lovers, Sammy 950 $2500 and Phili 9000 $5000 are good choice if you don't need CPRM.both have upcoverter for HDMI output.due to HDMI 1.2 is coming soon, I didn't take Sammy 950 thou $ is really attractive.
JVC DH5U DVHS is $6280 while older 40000u is $7980.but very difficult to find in most stores.JVC new 3CCDs HDD camcorder is about $12000.
Panny 65 is really huge!of course, your pocket has to have huge $, about $150000.so my Tosh 62 is really a great bargain!
Sharp only show 45 at max.
Sony 1080i HC1 camcorder is nice, $15880, but hope it can have much smaller pocket size later.803 disc camcorder is $9580.
Olevia (Kolin) LCD TVs have special promotion of each model, from give free DVR to another free TV.....
Hita 100pj is $12800, installed.
FYR, here usually you get about 10% off from MSRP.
then went to that bldg with about 20 stores in Mong Kok.if you know what you want and skillful in nego, then this is the place to go.you can spend whole day there to try every gear you like!
Denon 2910 $5500, 3910 $9000.
Marantz 9500 $10500.
didn't find my target: Tannoy ST, but saw many Elac STs.
Fuji 42 is only $19980!thou it's not the newest model.
have thought to get an isolated transformer, really heavy 26kg!do you think it's really useful to improve sound quality? 一天可以逛這麼多店喔! ^O^!
