Did you know ...... that movies can be viewed in 3D even at the recording stage?
The 3D function in camcorders poses a small problem for moviemakers, in that they only see the subject they are recording on a small display and in two dimensions. As a result, it is difficult for them to imagine what the movie will finally look like in 3D on a 40-inch screen. However, the new cinemizer OLED video glasses from Carl Zeiss now make this possible. These may be connected to the camcorder directly via the HDMI interface. The glasses work as a 3D viewfinder. Moviemakers may evaluate the quality of the video on the display in any type of lighting conditions, since no ambient light gets through to interfere with the picture on screen. The 3D quality can also be evaluated using the cinemizer OLED even during the shoot. Thus, camera and subject settings can be adjusted there and then in order to achieve the best result. To the moviemaker, the 3D image has the same dimensions as if it were on a 40-inch screen two meters away – just like in his/her living room. The only difference is that the video glasses have two separate screens – one for each eye. This means that loss of brightness, ghosting and flickering do not occur. The glasses also provide a better 3D image for watching 3D movies, for example on Blu-ray players. The cinemizer OLED is very light and the battery lasts a long time, so it can be used for long recording sessions. This means that the video glasses are also useful for professionals who can connect them via digital and analog interfaces using a digital single lens reflex camera. This can even be mounted on a telescopic arm or a mini helicopter in order to take pictures from a bird’s eye view. Using a radio base station for the glasses and a remote control for the camera, the cameraman can then watch all recordings live in 3D and adjust the settings instantaneously. September 5, 2012
