Billy Joel 在1973年唱紅了 Piano Man 這首歌, 從此得了Piano Man的稱號, 出了很多CD, 粉絲也很多, 他的演唱值得玩味.
2010/08/02 德國波茨坦世界樂旗大賽的台北市立建國中學樂旗隊聯隊, 就是使用Billy Joel的樂曲.

這首歌是Billy Joel早年在鋼琴酒吧討生活，描寫酒吧裡的人生百態的記錄，是他第一首受歡迎的單曲。Piano Man 後來變成 Billy Joel的綽號。曲中道出了許多到酒吧的人其實就是為了排遣寂寞：They are sharing a drink they call longliness, but it's better than drinking along.

玩弄著他的琴酒（通常這酒叫做gin and tonic是加了無糖汽水的琴酒，應該是有專門的譯名，可是我不常逛酒吧，所以不知道）

當我還年輕的時候

（在酒吧工作）我相信是在耗費我的生命

寫關於房地產的小說家，也有可能是指他整天都坐在酒吧裡寫小說（像不動產）

指女服務生在討好（或勾引）商人顧客，讓他愈來愈醉（stoned是被丟石頭，俗語就是醉酒）以多得些小費或是希望能夠被看上。
put bread in my jar
應該指的是把小費（是他賴以為生的收入）放進他的琴上的罐子裡，不是真的麵包
And say, "Man, what are you doin' here?
顧客大都是喜歡聽他的歌才到酒店裡來，放了小費後對他說你不該在這裡混（應該有更好的發展）。
