‘Interstellar’, ‘Transformers 4’ will Feature Select Sequences Captured with IMAX® Cameras

LAS VEGAS – April 15, 2013 – IMAX Corporation (NYSE:IMAX; TSX:IMX) and Paramount Pictures, a division of Viacom (NASDAQ: VIA and VIAB), tonight announced an agreement to release five of Paramount Pictures’ upcoming films in the immersive IMAX format under an extension of the companies’ long-running partnership. The arrangement features some of Paramount’s most highly anticipated tentpole films, including Michael Bay’s Transformers 4 (June 2014) as well as its co-production of Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar (November 2014) and three titles that have yet to be announced.

Continuing the legacy begun by IMAX trailblazer Christopher Nolan and his use of the 15 perf 65mm IMAX® cameras in The Dark Knight, Nolan and Michael Bay will once again capture material and key sequences of these 2014 releases using IMAX® cameras. These specific sequences, which will expand to fill more of the screen exclusively in IMAX, will deliver unprecedented crispness and clarity and a truly immersive experience for moviegoers.

一年一度的Cinema Con(前身是ShoWest)又在拉斯維加斯展開，好萊塢六大、戲院業者、放映機業者...等電影業相關從業人員再度齊聚賭城。Collider網站的記者Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub(後面簡稱Frosty)在Cinema Con獨家專訪了麥可貝(Michael Bay)。Collider網站這則新聞後面列出訪問重點，以及一段長度3分鐘出頭的訪問影片。由於我個人對於變形金剛4(Transformers 4)的拍攝相關新聞，實在沒有興趣去Follow，這裡只簡單提一下麥可貝在訪談中提到的一些他將用在變形金剛4的電影拍攝技術：

• 訪問一開始，Frosty提到Cinema Con會展示不少新技術，麥可貝的回答提到，他聽說今年有雷射投影機(laser projector，傳聞IMAX在去年的Cinema Con展示了雷射投影機，今年還不知道是否有其他廠商推出雷射投影機，當然這裡所指的投影機都是電影院使用的，而非家用版)，但麥可貝隨即認為雷射投影機似乎有些遙遠(a little way out)。接下來，麥可貝也提到，聽說RealD有新的3D投影技術，他的說法是：「40% brighter on the white screen better than the silver screen」，根據我對RealD粗淺的了解，意思應該是新技術在白色布幕上，將會比RealD之前使用的金屬銀幕亮度加強40%，而這可能意味著以後戲院換裝RealD系統，將不用換裝金屬銀幕。(今天在Deadline網站有RealD的新聞稿，有興趣的朋友可以自行找來看)
• 他接著表示來到Cinema Con主要是協助推廣杜比Atmos(Dolby Atmos)音響系統。
• 變形金剛4將會是第一部採用最新的IMAX 3D數位攝影機(the new IMAX 3D digital cameras)拍攝的電影，但不是整部電影都會用這款攝影機，因為太昂貴。在訪問的影音檔中，Frosty也問到那個新型IMAX 3D攝影機的大小，影片中可以看到麥可貝在他的身前比畫了一下，若是與Collider這則報導使用的麥可貝照片上的那架攝影機相比，很明顯可以感覺到體型小了很多，對攝影師來說應該是福音。
• 麥可貝回答記者提問表示，還沒有看過哈比人，然後補了一句：「(變形金剛4)不會使用高幀率(48fps/high frame rate)拍攝(I'm not gonna do the 48 frames)。」
• 訪問的最後麥可貝被問到是否使用過Sony F-65的4K攝影機，也就是阿湯哥的遺落戰境(Oblivion)使用的攝影機，麥可貝只回答：No，訪問到此結束(或說是訪問影片結束，不確定後面還有沒有其他內容被Collider網站保留起來)。

PS：在Collider另外一則關於IMAX新聞稿所寫的新聞，記者提到諾蘭拍攝黑暗騎士(The Dark Knight )時，IMAX片段長度28分鐘，拍攝黑暗騎士：黎明昇起(The Dark Knight Rises)時，IMAX片段長度72分鐘，希望他的下一部作品Interstellar可以挑戰超過100分鐘。不過，諾蘭應該不會使用麥可貝所提到的IMAX 3D攝影機，而且他應該仍然是堅持使用膠捲拍攝，畢竟他曾經公開表示不喜歡數位拍攝。

在諾蘭非官方粉絲論壇當中，有網友po了一則目前似乎只有西班牙文報導的新聞，
內容就是大至描述IMAX CEO Rich Gelfond證實Interstellar(星際)將會是IMAX膠捲(70mm)的最後一部作品，
不過不解的是依照這個新聞程度，北美地區的媒體應該會有相關的報導，但GOOGLE了一下，
deadline，hollywoodreporter似乎還沒有報導，是不是如有西班牙媒體報導一事還有待觀察。
