曾榮獲奧斯卡提名的導演丹尼維勒納夫（異星入境、銀翼殺手2049 ）獲邀執導華納兄弟及傳奇影業的新片【沙丘】，此次大銀幕翻拍同樣是改編自法蘭克赫伯特的著名同名小說。在此疫情全球肆虐的非常時期，導演丹尼維勒納夫特別說明:「【沙丘】這部電影是由來自世界各地的人們共同製作，在我看來這些人都像家人一樣重要，我非常榮幸可以跟觀眾呈現他們辛勤的成果。並期待著在大銀幕上一起欣賞這部作品，屆時將是我們再次相聚的美好時刻。祝願大家健康平安。」

【沙丘】講述一個神祕又性格強烈的英雄之心路歷程，本片講述保羅亞崔迪的故事，他是一個聰明又富有天賦的年輕人，肩負超越自己理解的偉大天命，且必須遠行至宇宙中最危險的行星，以確保他家人及族人未來的延續。敵對勢力為搶奪唯有此行星才出產的珍貴資源大打出手，而這也是人類最珍視的資源，一種能解鎖人類偉大潛能的物質，唯有能戰勝自己恐懼的人才能存活。

傳奇影業重啟沙丘魔堡DUNE在先前就有傳出丹尼維勒納夫Denis Villeneuve有可能接下執導的工作，
而在稍早原著小說Frank Herbert的兒子Brian Herbert(應該是兒子如有錯誤請指教)推特上證實了。

據variety的獨家消息來源，Dave Bautista將加入演出重啟的沙丘魔堡DUNE，而Denis Villeneuve(接下重啟執導工作)目前正在與Jon Spaihts(普羅米修斯)共同撰寫劇本中，此外Rebecca Ferguson也會參與演出。

華納發布上映檔期，2020/11/20上映，劇組預計今年(2019)春季在布達佩斯和約旦展開拍攝作業，作品將會有3D以及IMAX版本的放映。
