O.K. people I brought this unit on March 3, 2009 and returned it to B&H one week later, here's why. I did two shoots with it. The first part of the first shoot was a talking head conference where the speaker was standing in front of a podium and did not move so the camera was mounted on my tripod and did not move either. Once the speaker was finished I had to do a walk around and interview people on the audience floor. That's when it happened, recording STOPPED and the error message "MEDIA NEEDS TO BE RESTORED" was displayed in the view finder. So I restored it and started my interview again. To my amazement it happened again and again. Every time I restored it would just fail again. As I went though it in my head I realized that the unit had failed every time I walked near or did an interview near the small PA speakers used for the podium mic or when the camera got the slightest vibration. I had the same problem during the second shoot also, so I goggled the SONY CAMERA HARD DRIVE 60GB/REG#SOPHU60K/PHU60K and was shocked to see that this seems to be a regular thing with this unit. When you record in certain situations you may constantly get an error "MEDIA NEEDS TO BE RESTORED". So I returned it to B&H and got a 32GB SxS card as its replacement. But I must say that this does not reflect badly on B&H but on Sony for putting junk on the market! Sort it out please Sony!

Used while shooting a three hour handheld event. Drive stopped recording about two hours in with the message- "Media Needs to be Restored." Nervous, I quickly hooked it to the Macbook Pro and dumped all material. [...] I have heard from some that it may be the speed of the USB connection that causes the error. Regardless, though the drive itself is a good idea it is not up to snuff quite yet. Go with the S x S until something better comes along.
