I just want to take the opportunity to thank all the fans around the world for letting me have fun with the Transformers franchise. It has been a wonderful opportunity to have worked with about 4000 crew members around the world. These artists are some of the very best in the entire film business. I’m honored to have had you work along side me. We had an amazing time.
‘Dark of the Moon’ has some of the most technically challenging sequences ever shot. And shot in 3D. I must urge you to find the very best theatre and see this movie in that format. 3D was a forethought, not an afterthought in this movie. I’m glad Jim Cameron and Steven Spielberg really convinced me to shoot in this new technology. We used and invented many new techniques to make the 3D sharper, brighter and more color contrast. I think theatre owners heard their audience that they need to respect the specs of the projectors and not dim the bulbs to save money.
Many theaters are presenting it in the brand new 7.1 sound, which is awesome. This is the most complex, intricate sound track that me and my Academy Awarding winning sound team have done. They really out did themselves to make this a big picture experience. Hopefully you will have as much fun watching this movie as we all had making it.
為了宣傳變形金剛3(Transformers: Dark of the Moon)的3D版,Deadline網站報導,導演麥可貝(Michael Bay)分別寫了兩封公開信,一封是給觀眾,敦促(urge)觀眾找最好的戲院觀賞3D版。另外一封信則是打在派拉蒙的信紙上,發給北美地區的電影院放映師(projectionist)。我個人比較注意的是給放映師的信,這封信裡有兩個地方算是重點,第一點是麥可貝在信中證實他的確為變形金剛3製作了一個特別數位版,這個版本的名稱是白金6版本(Platinum 6 version),6的意思是觀眾可以在戲院中看到亮度6-foot lamberts的3D版變形金剛3。他並在信中再度提到:「我們創造了多種以往從未使用在這種型式(指3D)的後製程序,以增強銳利度、改善對比度並提供更鮮明的色彩(we have invented various post production processes never before uses in this format to enhance sharpness , improve contrast , and render more vibrant colors)」
我本來以為,麥可貝會像永生樹(The Tree of Life)的導演泰倫斯馬力克(Terrence Malick)一樣,在永生樹在北美上片前發出給電影院放映師的放映指南,明白列出放映所需的燈光亮度、音量大小、銀幕比例,甚至連電影院內什麼時候應該關燈都有指示。以下是馬力克前一陣子發給北美地區電影院放映師的四點指示:
一、播放這部電影(當然是指永生樹)的正確銀幕比例是1.85:1。(Project the film in it's proper 1.85:1 aspect ratio.)
二、杜比(Dolby)與DTS音響系統的正確音量控制是7,馬力克要求在系統允許的情況下,將音量調到7.5,甚至是7.7。(The correct fader setting on Dolby and DTS systems is 7. Malick asks that faders be kept at 7.5 or even 7.7, system permitting.)
三、電影沒有片頭字幕,所以要求戲院工作人員在電影開演前,就將戲院內的燈光調暗。(The film has no opening credits, and the booth operator is asked to make sure the "lights down cue is well before the opening frame of reel 1.")
四、鑒於最近關於電影畫面亮度較暗的傳聞,要求放映師將放映機亮度調整在適當標準(5400 Kelvin),foot Lambert的亮度等級則是標準的14。(With all the recent talk of "darkier, lousier" images, operators are asked that lamps are at "proper standard (5400 Kelvin)" and that the "foot Lambert level is at Standard 14.")
我想,大家在看過馬力克先生的四點指示後,可能會發現3D電影最被詬病的亮度問題,麥可貝的信中沒有詳列放映指示,只有提到讓觀眾可以在戲院中看到亮度6-foot lamberts的3D版變形金剛3,而馬力克則明確指示foot Lambert的亮度等級則是標準的14(foot Lambert level is at Standard 14.)。14與6應該差很多,如果有這方面專業知識的朋友,希望可以提供您們的意見。
