This is my first post on the forum. I will write in English,I hope members of this forum won't mind. I come from a small country on the South-East Europe called Bosnia and Herzegovina. As You can see here:

I think that Your forum is really interesting and great place. I am browsing it with translators, so I can understand. I also downloaded some video that Mr. West made and It really made me to write here. I don't have right words to explain how much I appreciate his work. It is a wonderful thing that somebody cares so much about his country (Taiwan) and that he does this job with so much style, true honest passion and I saw a real value in it, which is extremely rare thing in today's world. I could write for hours about it, but this is already off topic I hope admin won't be offended.

Anyway the real topic and a question I wanted to ask is about HTPC. I know that the standards are different. Here in Europe we have on all HD channels MPG4 which is encoded in H.264 codec and our system is PAL too.As we know when building a HTPC for decoding H.264 1920*1080 in real time processor is the most important thing and it has to be really strong. In the last time GPU is also helping to decode the video. I would like to have here is about opinions on the processors which would be able to to a good job. I had few AMD processors, but this time I want to choose Intel, so maybe some member would like to give opinion:

INTEL CORE 2 QUAD Q8400 BOX 4x 2.60GHz 1333MHz 4MB Sck.775
Would this processor do a god job in allowing the user to watch and record HDTV which is in MPG4 H.264 1920*1080? It has only 4MB of memory. But it's still quad and has a solid frequency. Would it work smoothly while recording compressed HD signal? Maybe somebody can offer opinion?

First one is old socket, I want to ask a question is it really a good idea to give some extra money for the new socket and how much performance would You actually get? It is investing in future of course but is it worth of it?
If somebody has some advice which GPU would be a good solution, and I would also like to hear opinion about which is better in HD decoding ATI/NVIDIA.
Also suggestion for RAM amount would be good too?

this is really good place, and you found something interesting here. I think the problem is the sound card with HTPC now, but I still can't find anything perfect for this problem. So, Mr. West have been working for this  CineClub HDP-X1/SE ─ Home Cinemaia Player, support much file format , mkv , iso , flac, ape , and many function. Check this out. But it's not finished , it's only prototype now. Maybe next year 2010 , we can see that

Hi, Zer0,

As mentioned above, there's no perfect solution for HTPC configuration. To me, your processor looks pretty good to me. I think the only thing you need to worry is your graphical and sound card selections. I am not an expert to this, rather I am also a beginner to this.

Well yeah, the processor is the hearth of this machine. I wanted to make sure I won't have any problems in decoding heavy European compressed h.264 standard. They complicated it a bit. Sound is the most problem, GPU can help the processor to decode the material, so it should be quite good configuration. Once again thank You for Your reply!
