CyberLink PowerDVD Certified for Ultra HD Blu-ray Playback





If you’ve been dreaming of making the leap to Ultra HD Blu-ray playback using a HTPC, CyberLink’s latest news should put a smile on your face. The company’s stalwart PowerDVD software has recently been certified for Ultra HD Blu-ray playback by the BDA (Blu-ray Disc Association), which is the first sign that home theater PCs will soon be taking a leap into the world of HDR 4K video.

Now, you might say “That’s great, but there is no such thing as a Ultra HD Blu-ray drive from PCs.” And you’d be right. However, suffice to say this news about the software certification is a strong hint as to what’s coming. So, what does this mean for HTPC users? It means the PowerDVD will support 3840 x 2160 resolution content with WCG (wide color gamut) and HDR (high dynamic range). Furthermore,it will support frame rates up to 60p, and immersive sound formats like Dolby Atmos and DTS:X.

Here’s what the company said in its press release: “With more than 300 million copies sold, PowerDVD is the definitive standard for media players, providing customers with the ultimate in home entertainment for the last 15 years” said Dr. Jau Huang, CEO of CyberLink. “Today’s Ultra HD Blu-ray certification means we can once again bring our customers the very latest in video and audio technology, ensuring they can enjoy the ultimate 4K experience.”

The company expects to ship software supporting these new capabilities in early 2017. Hopefully, by then there will be UHD Blu-ray drives available for PCs. It’s about time the HTPC crowd got to join the 4K HDR party.

Ultra HD Blu-ray
Operating System
•Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit and 64-bit with 2015 Nov. updates).

CPU
•Intel 7th generation (Kaby Lake) Core i processors and above that support the Intel Software Guard Extensions (Intel SGX) technology.

VGA
•Intel 7th generation (Kaby Lake) Core i processors integrated with Intel HD Graphics 630, Intel Iris™ Graphics 640.
  Note: Ultra HD Blu-ray is supported only if a display is powered by Intel Graphics and supports HDCP 2.2.  If your computer includes more than one graphics processor, Ultra HD Blu-ray is supported only on the display that is connected and powered by Intel Graphics.

Mainboard (Motherboard)
•A mainboard is required which supports the Intel Software Guard Extensions (Intel SGX) technology.
  The Intel SGX feature needs to be enabled in the BIOS* settings and allocated with 128 MB or above memory space.
  Note: to output Ultra HD Blu-ray movies to an external display, the connection port embedded on the mainboard must support HDCP 2.2.  For laptop PCs, please refer to the specification of your laptop to see if the external display connection (HDMI/DisplayPort) supports HDCP 2.2 output.

Memory
•4 GB (6 GB recommended).

Display Device
•Display device with HDMI 2.0a/DisplayPort 1.3 or above connection interface, and must support HDCP 2.2.
•Screen resolution: Ultra HD resolution (3840 x 2160).
  Note: when playing video on displays larger than Quad HD+ (or any file greater than 3300 X 1900 resolution),
        CyberLink PowerDVD enters a high performance mode that disables some non-essential playback features.
        In this mode the following features are unavailable:

•Video rotation.
•Video Scene Selector (Video mark in/out).
•Instant Preview.
•Instant Zoom (Zoom in/out).
•Dual subtitle display.
•Subtitle customization for font, color, and size.

If required, you can disable high performance mode in video settings.

•Display connection: HDMI 2.0a/DisplayPort 1.3 or above version cable without any adapters/splitters/repeaters.
  Note: to enable the High Dynamic Range (HDR) feature of Ultra HD Blu-ray movies,
        the display device must support the HDR display feature and 10-bit color depth display capability with an HDMI 2.0a/DisplayPort 1.4 connection interface.
        If your display device doesn't support the HDR feature, PowerDVD will play back the Ultra HD Blu-ray movie under Standard Dynamic Range (SDR) mode.

Disc Drive
•Ultra HD Blu-ray playback: optical disc drives that are certified for Ultra HD Blu-ray playback.

Internet Connection
•Required for program activation, first time play of an Ultra HD Blu-ray movie, and other online services.

CPU指令集支持SGX加密(只有intel七代系列 ix 7xxx)
主板BIOS支持開啟SGX
光碟機支持AACS 2.0  (Pioneer BDR-S11J-X, BDR-S11J-BK)
GPU必須是集成顯卡(支持硬解4K HEVC 10bit ，支持HDCP2.2加密)
顯示設備支持HDCP2.2

之前跟了内蔵ドライブBDR-S11J-X予約特典，今天稍微測試了一下，

包裝及外觀




測試平台:
CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K
MB: Asus Z170-Premium
Graphic: GIGABYTE GeForce® GTX 1080 G1 Gaming 8G
Memory: Corsair Dominator Platinum CMD32GX4M2B3000C15 16GBx2
HDD: Samsung SSD 960 Pro 512GB
ODD: BDR-S11J-X


使用軟體: Cyberlink Ultra HD Blu-ray Advisor
直接由1080的HDMI輸出測試結果如下圖


可惜目前尚不支援獨顯，

由於主板上的HDMI輸出有問題，明天再補上Intel內顯驗證結果，
實測撥放則須等Pioneer將特典的光碟寄到才能驗證

這個好像是主因 ! CPU要I7-7700的才能支援4K ~ 低於I7-7700都沒辦法

終於看到第一個使用電腦撥放成功的案例
看來如果想要用電腦享受Ultra HD Blu-ray的話非得整台砍掉重練不可了

版上如果沒加顆MEGACHIP的LSPCON IC，會只有HDMI1.4跑30Hz。
有加就可以到HDMI 2.0跑60Hz

基本上, Intel 目前對於 HDMI 2.0 的作法皆為 Displayport 1.2 to HDMI 2.0
而 LSPCON (Level Shifter - Protocol Converter) 目的是 HDCP 2.2

目前 Intel 只支援兩種晶片, 一個是 MegaChip MCDP28x0, 另一個是 Parade PS175
MegaChip 的 HDCP key 是由 intel 負責, 所以需要 ME (BIOS / Driver) 相輔相成
Parade PS175 的 HDCP Key 是晶片本身自行負責處理, 所以比較不必擔心 ME 驅動或是韌體相容性.

另外, Parade 有推出另一顆 PS176, 一樣是 Displayport to HDMI 2.0a , 一樣是晶片本身處理掉 HDCP 2.2
但, PS176 不具備 LSPCON 功能, 它可以通過 Cyberlink Ultra HD Advisor 的檢測, 卻仍無法播放 Ultra HD Blu-ray 喔!
